New immigrant

Hola,

I am Patrick McDonnell. As a child I lived in Schull, County Cork but because of the lack of career opportunities, I left Ireland in 1965 to work overseas in America, Thailand and finally England. I retired from working two years ago. 13 months ago I bought a chacra at Rincon del Rey near Colonia Valdense where I grow sorgo and am rebuilding the old house.

I first visited Uruguay in the mid 1960s when I worked for a US air freight company and I fell in love with the country, the people (and Los Shakers) during the 5 days I was here. Now that I have retired, I have returned to the ROU and have received a warm welcome from the good people of Colonia Valdense. The longer I live here, the more I love the place.

My Espanol is still poor but I can read it and can usually make myself understood in conversation even though I still mangle the language icon_smile

My thanks goes out to the Uruguayan people for the wonderfully warm welcome I've received and for providing a sane alternative to the mad paranoia that is modern Europe.

Patrick.
